Updating software via Softaculous – Part 4 of 4

hey everybody Scott much were here with inmotion hosting and welcome to another edition of community Q&A now this video is our fourth and final video in the soft tacular series and we’re going to go over how to update software that was installed onto your account using Softaculous okay the fourth and final video for our Softaculous series is going to deal with updates it’s actually a very quick one so we’re going to start off in the cpanel
and again find the soft acula icon okay so let’s go to application installs so we can see which if any of the applications we have installed have an update now you can see WordPress here is on the current version of 4.1 it doesn’t have an update icon there now press the shop also doesn’t have one this 1.6 version but the prestashop 1.4 does you can see this little too blue arrow is here now just to be fair here the most current up-to-date
application may not yet be in softaculous sometimes it takes a few days ashford so say for instance 4.2 of wordpress was released today it may not have an icon here for a couple of days until saw taxes does the update and does put it installed so if you’re one of those people that has to have the day of you may end up doing a manual update WordPress very easy to do other things like prestashop maybe joomla not so easy so in those cases you may
want to wait to get the icon still doing a manual update we’re going to update the prestashop 1.4 here all you have to do is come down here find the icon give that a click it’s going to tell you where you know the URL that you’re updating the path now good idea to create a backup before upgrading just in case especially if you’re changing from version major version two major version the admin folder in this case you know I named it admin 123 just
for demonstration purposes whatever it just needs to know for this prestashop what the admin folders name is because it can be different in wordpress not so much you know WP admin I things like that so this tells you what’s going to do and it does say what version will be going to which in this case we’re going to be doing to 1.6 point 0 0 point 11 so go ahead and hit upgrade okay first going to make the backup okay it’s just in case you get in
there and it broken or it you don’t like it you know always best to have a backup always always when in doubt do a backup now again this is like the backup from the backup videos you can take a minute or two depending on how large your installation is larger babe databases take a look you know more time to do that if you just installed it like couple days ago don’t have much in it probably be close to this okay so here we go so the software is
upgraded successfully that’s great back here if we click the backup okay you see the third backup which is great alright and so we come back here and the install I’m sorry the upgrade was done so under store to one point six point zero point one one has been upgraded or that’s the upgraded version from 1.4 so that is how to upgrade very simple very easy they have manual ways to do things most of time and a lot of software will have a module or a
method inside the software as well to upgrade so you have a few options there this is the soft oculus way so it seems to keep things pretty clean but always always do your backup first and that’s it there you have it that’s the end of our softaculous series we’ve gone over how to install software and services we’ve gone over how to remove software we’ve gone over how to make your backups and in this last one here we’ve gone out have to update
