welcome back guys in today's video Chris asks an amazing a two-part question and we're gonna answer part one and then part two so Chris says I'm going to get the domain privacy protection with GoDaddy will that privacy protections still be valid when I'm transferring to Hostgator the answer is yes if you get your domain name at GoDaddy then that setting applies to your domain name wherever people visit your domain name and if you transfer to Hostgator then you still would have bought that domain name at GoDaddy and you're just not gonna really even need to move anything because you already bought it at GoDaddy you only need to buy your domain name in one place however you can buy products like code guard or site lock from Hostgator if maximizing security is something you're interested in doing so that's the answer to Part one and Part two Chris says does it cost to transfer the domain from GoDaddy to Hostgator and if you just mean Chris to move the name servers so that when someone visits your domain name which you bought to GoDaddy they see your Hostgator hosting which is really common we do that all the time in our videos like in our GoDaddy website tutorial and also in our setup a GoDaddy website video then the answer is no it doesn't cost anything you just go to your domain products and you click on DNS on this domain name for example just an example and then you click change on the name servers make it custom and then right in the Hostgator name servers and save it that is quote unquote transferring a domain name doesn't cost a thing you shouldn't have to pay to do that if you however do want to totally move the domain name so that they're controlled and you log into Hostgator and you see them you know being managed there and you don't see your domain at GoDaddy then there might be a cost you're gonna have to ask the support about that but in that case you would see your domain names in the hostgator customer portal click domains up here then you can see the list of your domain names that would also be a way of transferring your domain names not something you need to do but if you really want everything managed at Hostgator you can definitely do that I just believe in doing less work if possible and that's why if we bought our domain name at GoDaddy we'll probably leave it there if we bought our hosting at Hostgator will probably leave it there and you know we'll combine the two because they're the best of both worlds so that's pretty much the answer right there I don't think you need to do a ton more work Chris it sounds like you already have things set up with the domain privacy protection and the transferring if you're just doing the name servers then you're all set you don't need to pay another dime thanks so much yes I guess I could be a legend but now I've been around here for like ten years now so the legend is growing but you're a legend too you're really awesome and thank you for asking that question which hopefully helps a lot of people all right so thanks for watching guys I really enjoyed making this for you and please be sure to subscribe so that we can help you make WordPress blogging more fun and yeah thanks for watching I'll see you next time .

Video Discription

You don't need to transfer your domain names. Wherever you bought them is fine and you can "transfer" them for free by changing the nameservers. This is how we recommend doing it. Enjoy!
