After you have purchased your domain name with godaddy and your hosting account with Hostgator, you will need to change your DNS controls in order for Hostgator to upload data to your new domain name.
LOGIN TO YOUR NEW ACCOUNTS
HOSTGATOR: You should have received a Username, Password and distinct cPanel website address from Hostgator. Go to that link and login to your cPanel. Once logged in scroll down to the bottom of the page and on the right hand side under Account Information you will see a section called “”Nameservers.” This should be something like: ns2911.hostgator.com. You may want to write these down or open in a new window in order to open up godaddy.
GODADDY: Go to godaddy.com and login to your account. On the right hand side of the page click on my account. Then click on your domain name under MY DOMAINS in the center of the page; this will take you to the godaddy Domain Details for your domain name. In the bottom lower left of the screen look for the section called “Nameservers” and click on “Set Nameservers” Then, click on the button name: “I have specific nameservers for my domains”. Under Nameserver 1, enter the first nameserver which was given on your hostgator account, for example: ns____.hostgator.com. Then under Nameserver 2, enter the second nameserver given in your hostgator account, for example: ns____.hostgator.com. Then click okay. If this step was done correctly, you should receive a message that looks something like this:
