I’m gonna show you how to buy a domain name by going to GoDaddy.com to register a domain name.
To start on GoDaddy.com click in the search field, enter your domain and then click Search
to check domain availability. Awesome, my website domain is available. To buy a website domain, below is the domain’s purchase info with the option to add the three-pack. This enables you to purchase the next three most popular extensions for your GoDaddy domain name. It could be a good idea if you’re trying to protect your website domain and build brand. I’m going to add the available domain to my Shopping Cart and click Continue.
On this screen, you have some options that will help you protect your personal information and make the most of registering your domain. We add the domain privacy protection by default to hide your personal information from the public GoDaddy WHOIS. And you can also kick it up a notch with the ultimate protection and security option. If you want to read more about either option, just click the question mark here or here. Of course, the choice is always up to you. You can always select “no thanks” to decline both domain privacy options.
The next option is to create a free website. Again selected by default because this is what most folks will use their domain for. However, feel free to deselect this option to decline. And the last option here lets you create a custom email address that lets you use your domain name. I’m going to leave my options as is and click continue to cart.
This is the Purchase Summary page. If you don’t already have an account with us, you’ll need to create one first, so let’s do that.
You can create an account with GoDaddy using your Facebook or Google account or just enter your good old email address like me. Next, enter a username. Make sure to tick off all the requirements. Now enter a password. We’ll help you out here by letting you know how strong or weak your password is as you enter it. If you’re like me, you need a little help remembering what you actually typed in. You can always click Show to see your password. To finish, click Create Account.
And we’re back on the summary page. On the right of this page are the contents of my cart. At the top is my GoDaddy domain name. It may sound obvious, but make sure you have it spelled right here. This is your last chance to change it and we really want to make sure that you’re getting the one that you want.
Below the domain name is the term for your registration or the number of years that you want to keep the domain. Remember while you’re purchasing a domain name, it’s only yours as long as you continue to renew the domain registration. I’ve set mine to five years.
Below the term field is the rate at which your GoDaddy domain will renew. This is the amount that I’ll be charged in five years if I choose to renew. You can easily change the term by expanding the menu and selecting a different one.
Below the domain area is the domain privacy. You’ll notice that the privacy term is aligned for the number of years in your domain’s term.
And below that is where you can build a website with a free trial. If you change your mind and you want to delete anything in the cart just click the garbage can icon.
Next, in the upper left of the screen, you’ll enter your payment information. And then choose a payment form and enter the required information. Once that’s done you’ll want to ensure the billing information below the payment is correct. And the Recommended For You area are other parts that you’ll want to consider. If you’re interested in adding any of these, just click add.
Okay, let’s wrap up. If you have a GoDaddy promo code for your purchase, be sure to click the link and enter the code before you click complete purchase. I’m all set so I’ll click Complete Purchase. And that’s it.
You’ve completed your GoDaddy domain name registration.
