How to Redirect a Domain in cPanel – 301 & 302 Redirects – Rewrite Rules

When you 301, or 302 redirect a domain in cPanel, it adds a Rewrite rule to your .htaccess file automatically. In this video tutorial I walk you through creating a Redirect. Below is an outline of the steps:

1. Log into cPanel.
2. Click the “Redirects” button
3. Click the drop-down box for “Type” and choose if you want to create a Permanent (301), or Temporary (302) redirect.
4. Click the next drop-down box and choose the domain you want to redirect.
5. Enter the address you want to redirect to in the Redirects to section.
6. Choose if you want to “Only redirect with www.” “Redirect with or without www.” or “Do Not Redirect www.”
7. Check the box if you want to create a Wild Card Redirect.
8. Click the “Add” button.

Hi everyone, John Paul Briones here from InMotion Hosting and thank you for joining us for another video in our cPanel series. Today I’m going to show you how to set up a redirect in cPanel. Begin by logging into your cPanel. If you don’t know how to do that a pop-up will come up on the top right of the screen. Click that to go to our full guide on how to log into your cPanel. Once you have logged into cPanel, we’re going
to scroll down to the Domain section and click the Redirects button here. This will bring you to the Redirects page. Scroll down to the Add Redirect section. First thing we’re going to choose is the Type. Essentially, you can choose a Permanent 301 redirect or a Temporary 302 redirect. I definitely recommend using the permanent redirect if this is a permanent change as it lets search engines know that the URL has
changed. In the next section, we’re going to click the drop-down box here and choose the domain that you want to redirect. In my case, I’m redirecting this example.com domain. In this next section, you can choose if there’s a folder that should follow the redirect. For example, if they go to example.com/test it will redirect that address to the new address. In my case, I want to redirect the whole domain. Anything at
example.com I want to redirect to the new address. So I’m going to leave this box blank. In the Redirects to address add the new address that you want to redirect to. In my case, I’m just going to put inmotionhosting.com. But I’m going to add.. be sure to add HTTP or HTTPS if it’s a secured site. You notice I put http://inmotionhosting.com and so be sure to you the full address with the HTTP or HTTPS in the beginning,
once again. In the www redirection section here, choose if you want to only redirect the www if you want to redirect with or without the www or if you do not want to redirect the www. In my case, I’m going to redirect with or without the www. You can also choose here if you want to do a wild-card redirect. In this case, if somebody put example.com/test it would actually redirect them to inmotionhosting.com/test. I’m
going to leave that blank. Once you’ve chosen your settings, go ahead and click the Add button here on the bottom. It’ll tell you that the redirect was created and see it shows you what the redirect was and at this point the redirect has been created. I’m going to go back and take a look so you can see it now listed on the bottom. So go ahead and click the go back button here. This will bring you back to the Redirects page
scroll down to the bottom to see your new redirect listed, in this case, it’s the example.com address one listed here on the bottom and you could always click Delete to remove this redirect if you no longer want it. vamos rolar para baixo até a seção Domínio e clicar no botão Redirecionamentos aqui. Isso levará você à página de redirecionamentos. Role para baixo até a seção Adicionar redirecionamento . A primeira coisa que vamos escolher é o Tipo. Basicamente, você pode escolher um redirecionamento 301 permanente ou um redirecionamento 302 temporário. Definitivamente, recomendo o uso do redirecionamento permanente se essa for uma
alteração permanente, pois permite que os mecanismos de pesquisa saibam que o URL foi alterado. Na próxima seção , clicaremos na caixa suspensa aqui e escolheremos o domínio que você deseja redirecionar. No meu caso, estou redirecionando este domínio example.com. Nesta próxima seção, você pode escolher se há uma pasta que deve seguir o redirecionamento. Por exemplo, se eles acessarem example.com/test, ele redirecionará
esse endereço para o novo endereço. No meu caso, quero redirecionar todo o domínio. Qualquer coisa em example.com que eu queira redirecionar para o novo endereço. Então vou deixar esta caixa em branco. Em Redirecionar para endereço, adicione o novo endereço para o qual você deseja redirecionar. No meu caso, vou colocar apenas inmotionhosting.com. Mas vou adicionar… certifique-se de adicionar HTTP ou HTTPS se for um site seguro.
Você percebe que coloco http://inmotionhosting.com e, portanto, certifique-se de informar o endereço completo com o HTTP ou HTTPS no início, mais uma vez. Na seção de redirecionamento de www aqui, escolha se deseja redirecionar apenas o www se quiser redirecionar com ou sem o www ou se não quiser redirecionar o www. No meu caso, vou redirecionar com ou sem o www. Você também pode escolher aqui se deseja fazer um redirecionamento
curinga. Nesse caso, se alguém colocasse example.com/test, isso realmente o redirecionaria para inmotionhosting.com/test. Vou deixar isso em branco. Depois de escolher suas configurações, vá em frente e clique no botão Adicionar aqui na parte inferior. Ele informará que o redirecionamento foi criado e mostrará qual foi o redirecionamento e neste ponto o redirecionamento foi criado. Vou voltar e dar uma olhada para que você
veja agora listado na parte inferior. Então vá em frente e clique no botão voltar aqui. Isso levará você de volta à página Redirecionamentos, role para baixo para ver seu novo redirecionamento listado. Nesse caso , é o endereço example.com listado aqui na parte inferior.
