hi guys this is Nathaniel from one more cup of coffee calm and today we're going to take a look at how to point your domain name to your hosting now this is going to depend on where you buy your domain name from who your registrar is also it's gonna depend on where you host so what you see today may be a little bit different from your exact situation but the principles are still the same and most places are gonna have videos or some kind of support to help you with the process maybe you can figure it out just by watching this video so I buy my domain names to GoDaddy this is a popular place another popular one is named cheap and I host it two places I host at Wealthy Affiliate and I host on Hostgator so I'm gonna show you both today so first we're gonna need to go into wherever your domains are minors and domains and domain management and once we're inside we're gonna need to find the domain we're looking for so I have tons of domains okay so I found my domain I'm gonna check it I'm gonna go to name servers set name servers and I've already got my name servers set here there will probably be something in there either set name servers or edit name servers or add name servers I'm gonna blur these out just for privacy reasons but if we go to edit name servers I'll show you what my old ones were so when I hosted with a shared hosting package at Hostgator they were in as $99 Gator common ns200 hostgator.com so you just type those in click ok and then they say it takes 24 hours or even 48 hours in my experience is usually done within 30 minutes or an hour it's just going to depend another thing you can do to check to see well obviously your website won't be working if they're not pointing in the right direction yet but you can go do is go to what's my D and s dot net type in the name of your domain go here go to NS do a quick search and then it'll list where your domain is pointing here from all these different locations these are different servers and anyway it'll give you a green check if it's ok and it'll tell you the name it should match the names that you put in your servers so if you're hosting over at W a it's gonna be different it's going to be NS 1 my W a hosting comm and yes to my W a hosting calm and then it would be the same process to click OK and then you can wait an hour a couple hours maybe even a day and then you go to what's my DNS net and type in your domain name and hopefully it'll bring up these actually with W a they have redundant hosting which means there's extra copies of stuff so you'll see for you see in s1 and s2 and s3 and s4 and that's how you do it that's it that's how to get your domain name your virtual real estate to post to this storage location for your website files that way when people type in your domain name it knows where to direct them it knows where to access these pictures and text and whatever else you have on your website again this is Nathaniel for one more cup of coffee calm thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next video .
