How to Install WordPress on HostGator (2022) – Beginners Tutorial

In this video, we’re going to be covering how to install WordPress on HostGator in 2022.
Installing WordPress on HostGator is SUPER EASY and will only take us a few minutes to complete.

Please Note: This tutorial is using WordPress.org (not .com).

If you’re wanting to build a website or start a blog using WordPress. The first thing you’ll need to do is install WordPress onto a domain name and web hosting.

I personally recommend using HostGator (if you haven’t already guessed!).
I’ve been using them for 8 years without any issues.

WRITTEN STEPS (QUICK VERSION)

If you want a full version of the written steps, you can find them here:

— Register HostGator Account

1. Go to HostGator.com
2. Hover over “Hosting” at the top and click “Shared Hosting”.
3. Choose Hosting Plan and click “Buy Now” underneath.
4. Type the Domain Name you’d like to register into the box at the top.
5. Choose “Domain Extension” using the drop-down menu to the right.
6. Under this, uncheck the box beside “domain privacy protection” (optional).
7. Double-check our “Package Type” is correct.
8. Choose a “Billing Cycle” (how often we’ll pay).

I’d recommend going for 12 months or more if you can, and not only because we get a great discount compared to monthly billing (which we do). But, we also get a FREE domain name!

9. Enter Email Address.
10. Create a Password and Security PIN for our HostGator account.
11. Fill out our personal billing information (name, email address, etc).
12. Once we’re done, we can scroll down to where it says “Add Additional Services”.

I normally just uncheck these boxes myself (they are completely optional).

13. Delete the current coupon code.
14. Enter the coupon code: WORDPRESS1HOST (and click Validate).
15. Scroll down and check the box to agree to the Terms of Service.
16. Click “Check out Now!”.
17. Pay for our order.

— Log into HostGator Control Panel (cPanel)

After successful payment, we will be brought to a page thanking us for our order.

1. Close out of HostGator.
2. Open our email inbox (the one we used when signing up).
3. Click into the email titled “Your Account Info”
4. Click the link beside where it says “Your Control Panel”.

This will open up the Control Panel (cPanel) in a new tab.

5. Copy and paste Username and Password from the email, into the cPanel login screen.
6. Click “Login” to log into the cPanel.

— Install WordPress (using Softaculous)

1. Scroll down to the “Software” section.
2. Click on “WordPress Manager”.
3. Click “Install”.
4. Scroll down and enter Username, Password, and Email Address.

Everything else on this page is optional.

5. Scroll down to the bottom and click “Install”.

At this point, Hostgator will start installing WordPress for us.
(this usually takes less than a minute).

Once it’s finished, we can click the link beside “Administrative URL”.

Which will open up the WordPress Dashboard.

And this is where we can add any content, or make any changes to our new WordPress site.
Which is now LIVE online!

I hope you enjoyed the video and managed to get WordPress installed without any problems!

hi guys it’s marty here and in this video we’re going to be covering how to install wordpress on hostgator web hosting step by step now i already published a video showing how to do this a while back but since then a few of the steps have changed so this is a totally up-to-date version for 2022 so if you’re ready let’s get started okay so to install wordpress on hostgator we first need to set up a hostgator account if you’ve already got an
account and just want to know how to install wordpress you can skip ahead to the time on screen now then for everyone else we’re going to open up our internet browser and go to hostgator.com or alternatively you can click the link in the video description below to open it up in a new tab but either way once we get here we just want to hover over hosting at the top and then click shared hosting and this is going to show us the three different
hosting plans that hostgator offer if you’re only planning to build one website like i am we can go for the hatchling plan or if you’re going to be building more than one website go for the baby plan once we’ve decided on which plan we’re going to go for we can click buy now underneath that’s going to bring us here and this is where we can register the domain name we want for our new website so we just need to type the domain name we’re wanting
to register into this box at the top and for this example i’m going to type a website about coffee then we can choose our domain extension using this drop down menu on the right and i’m going to choose dot com so the domain name i’d be registering here would be a website about coffee.com then as long as the domain name is available it’s going to say primary domain here and once we’ve chosen our domain we can scroll down to where it says domain
privacy protection this is an optional add-on and to be honest i normally just uncheck this box and haven’t had any problems to do it but if you’re trying to keep your website totally anonymous just leave this box checked and it’ll be added to your bill then underneath it says choose a hosting plan and here we just want to check that our package type is correct and choose a billing cycle in this example i went for the hatchling plan so this is
correct and then here on the right we can choose how often we’d like to pay for our hosting now obviously this is going to depend on how much money you have to spend on your website but i would definitely recommend setting this to 12 months or higher if you can and not only because there’s a great discount compared to monthly billing but we also get a free domain name with our hosting if we go for 12 months or more up front and with that being
said i’m going to set mine to 12 months then once we’re done here we can scroll down and here we just want to enter our email address and choose a password and security pin for our account then under this we can enter our personal billing information so things like our name and address and on the right we can choose how we’d like to pay for our order and we can choose either credit or debit card or paypal then we’re going to scroll down to where
it says add additional services and these are just some added extras that hostgator offer i normally just leave these boxes unchecked myself but you can have a read through them and if you want any of them just check the box and they’ll be added to your bill then under this it says enter a coupon code and there might already be a coupon entered in here for 20 or 25 percent off but if we delete this coupon and instead type in wordpress one host
when we click validate and scroll down we’ll see that the price is now even cheaper and we’re getting both our web hosting and domain name for less than fifty dollars and remember that this is for the full year which means our website’s going to cost us around four dollars a month to run which is awesome now before we continue i’d just like to quickly mention that as well as you getting an amazing discount i’ll also receive a small commission
from hostgator if you make a purchase through my link or using my coupon code this won’t cost you anything extra and it means i can continue making these tutorials for free so thank you in advance if you use the coupon and even if you don’t i’d still highly recommend using hostgator for your website but anyway let’s get back to the tutorial now we just need to check this box at the bottom to agree to their terms and then click checkout now so i’m
just going to pause this video while i fill out my personal information above and then i’ll restart it again so if you’re following along at home just pause the video while you’re paying for your order and then come back and press play when you’re done and will carry on together okay so that’s me now back and when i finished paying for my order i was brought to a page saying thank you and then i was redirected to the homepage if you’re following
along at home at this point we can close out of hostgator and instead we’re going to open up our email inbox here we should find some new emails from hostgator and these emails contain some pretty important information so keep them safe but for now we’re going to click into the email that says your account info and in this email we’ll see we have a link to our control panel which is also known as the cpanel our username and password for logging
in and some other information about our account here we’re going to click the link to our control panel which is going to open up the cpanel login screen now we need to copy and paste our username and password from this email into the login screen then once we’ve got them pasted in we can click log in and this is us going to be logging into the hostgator cpanel which is where we’ll be installing wordpress all we need to do is scroll down to where
it says software and click wordpress manager by softaculous then we need to click install and this is going to open up the wordpress installer the first thing we’re going to do here is make sure that https is selected in this first box our new domain name is selected in the box beside it and the last box is left blank then under this on the left we can enter our site name and our site description and don’t worry about these too much for now as we
can always change them again later then over on the right we can create the username and password we want for logging into our wordpress site and then under this we can update our email address then once we’re done if we scroll down we’ll see on the left there’s an option to change the default language if we want but i’m going to leave mine as it is and on the right there are a few recommended plugins but these are totally optional and we can
always install them later if we want to then finally we have the option to install one of their recommended themes but once again this isn’t necessary and we can easily install them later now all we need to do is click install at the bottom and hostgator will start installing wordpress onto our new domain name this will usually take less than a minute and once it’s finished it’ll say congratulations the software was installed at this point we can
click the link beside where it says admin url which will open up the wordpress dashboard in a new tab and this is where we can add any content or make any changes to our new wordpress site which by the way is now live online all we need to do to visit our site is click our site title in the top left and this is going to show us what wordpress looks like when we first install it now sometimes they change up the default theme so even if you didn’t
choose one during the installation yours might look a little different than mine but either way it’s just going to have some demo content and not much else but it’s ready for us to start customizing and creating our new website so that’s us now at the end of this video and that was how to install wordpress on hostgator i hope you found it helpful and if you did please give it a like to show your support and consider subscribing to the channel for
