hey everybody Jocasta bunny here from WP in one month recently it was announced that chrome is going to start taking steps towards notifying users of non secure websites by checking to see if a website takes passwords credit card information or other personal data and sending it over HTTP or a non SSL so what that means is that if you have a WordPress website and on the WordPress admin you are not using SSL your website will be flagged as non secure luckily WP and one-month partner SiteGround as well as other hosting companies offer a very easy solution for setting up SSL for free so today in this video tutorial I'm going to show you how to use site ground and let's encrypt to set up free SSL for your website so once you log in to your site ground account in the my accounts tab you will see go to cPanel go ahead and click on that and once cPanel loads you will be able to access let's encrypt one of two ways you can use the search bar here or you can scroll down under security and you'll see a little lock with like a sunrise icon and that's the let's encrypt icon so we'll go ahead and click that and then we will be presented with a couple of options if you have more than one domain on your account you can choose the domain as well as the email address you want associated with the SSL certificate that's going to be installed so I'm gonna choose my domain remote gear us I'm going to use my WP in one month email address and I'm going to click install now this could take a few minutes to fully install so I'm going to skip over that part and then we'll move to the next section okay so once the installation process completes you will see a message that says let's encrypt certificate installation success go ahead and click okay and now you have a fully functioning SSL certificate for your website I should point out that the first time might not work for whatever reason if it's a brand new domain it might take a couple of days to fully process or some kind of bug happen during the installation process go ahead and try it again and usually works on the second try for me if it doesn't work on the first try if you try a few times and it doesn't work that's when you go and reach out to a site ground support okay so we have the certificate now you can see that it expires in December and is a three month certificate and the last thing to do is just to make sure it works so we'll head over to our browser you can see that I have remote key us loaded up without HTTPS so with HTTP it's working fine so we're just going to type in HTTP colon slash slash remote gear dot us to make sure that the secure site is working properly and you can see it is it's loading the same exact site that we had before without HTTPS so that's it for the tutorial I hope that you have enjoyed it if you'd like to learn more go to WP in one month dot-com and check out our online courses Thanks have a great day .
