How to Install Drupal on HostGator

See the detailed tutorial at http://www.thingaweek.com/how-install-drupal-hostgator

what we’re gonna start off with is going to your Hostgator control panel we’re gonna scroll down the very first thing we’re going to do is go to the file manager under files go to the home directory and make sure you have show hidden files selected that’ll take you to your file manager and we’re gonna click on public HTML that’s your public HTML folder that will basically be public under your domain if I go to my site that I’m using on
Hostgator here you’ll see it just shows an index of what is in this folder so I’m just gonna select everything in there and delete it because I don’t need it all right and the first thing I’m gonna need to do to install Drupal is go to drupal.org and get the file so I’m going to go to drupal.org and go to download and extend download Drupal I’m gonna get the tar.gz file of 7.22 and it will download down here and you want to remember where you put
that because you’re going to need to upload it in the next step alright so I’m going to upload that file that I just downloaded I’m gonna click the upload button right here choose file go to downloads grab that file start the upload wait until it’s done uploading okay it’s complete close this window now go back to my control panel again I’m gonna refresh it I’ll select the file I just uploaded the Drupal 7.22 tar.gz and I’m gonna click on extract
and I want to extract it right to the public HTML folder okay now you’ll see a folder Drupal 7.2 – you want to go into that folder so double click on it or you could also go you can also go through the WWE Bowl and that’ll show what’s inside of it as well I’m gonna select everything in that folder and I’m gonna move file click the move file button and I just want to move all those files and folders to the public HTML directory so I’ll click the
move file okay and then I’m gonna go back to public HTML and you’ll see all the files in there now now if I go to my site again I should get the installation wizard all right so I’m gonna click the standard installation English save and continue’ and now we have a bit of a problem here PHP registered Global’s is enabled so we need to go back to our control panel again scroll down to PHP quick config click on that click on enable quick config
scroll down to PHP or register global sorry and click off and then save at the bottom now if I go back to the installation and i refresh this page i’ll move on to the next step alright so now it’s asking me for the database information well we haven’t set up a database yet so we need to go back to the cPanel again and setup a database so i’m going to click home and then scroll down to databases and I’m gonna click on MySQL databases I’m gonna in
the new database field create a new database called Drupal and I’ll go back then I’m gonna create a new user I’ll call that just user and create a password as well all right and create user and go back again now we need to associate the user with the database so I’m gonna click the user I created and the database I created and click Add and we’re gonna grant it all privileges Save Changes alright and that’s our database configuration we can go
back to the installation wizard again so the database name was this if for five for five underscore Drupal that’s the beginning part is just my username for my Hostgator account and that’s the user I created put in my password and that’s the password I just created in the previous step save and continue all right looks like database all worked okay okay and now I just need to set up my configuration information so I’ll just fill that in real
quick save and continue and visit your new site and if I go to the reports status report I have a nice green status report no problems at all so that was how to install Drupal on Hostgator thanks for listening and be sure to check out the a weak comm for the full tutorial
