wanted to bring you out here with me now before we jump into this video what I’d like to say is I don’t do this often but I just want to talk about a personal achievement that just happened today so those of you that don’t know I’m actually finishing my education at Lindenwood University studying entrepreneurship and I’m coming up on my final semester my girlfriend and I graduate December 2020 this year and today was really really exciting I got
an email and was approached by several professors to let me know that I was unanimously selected and it truly is a blessing you know you put in all this hard work hard work hard work you’re building a real business at least I am and I know other students are pursuing that but I’m here actively doing it and to see a payoff is is really cool and exciting it’s something that is really honorable and I am truly honored to receive this award so thank

increase your impact on the world let’s jump into it okay so here’s a little preview of what we’re actually gonna build out today Before we jump into the physical tutorial so that way you get an idea of how this is gonna work you must be so excited right now I’m finally showing you how to build a peer-to-peer messaging system in Wix guys wow I have been requested to make this video for about two years now since the first building a social
network in Wix video was released and it’s finally here however I have a bit of a confession to make and by the way my mic is down here so I’m sorry if it looks like I’m hunched over a little bit that confession is that my goal as a content creator as a Wix trainer is to make my content as user-friendly as possible for you so that way you can take it and easily implement it into your own website the problem is is when which Corbett was just
released a little while back when it first came out building a peer-to-peer messaging system was possible but it was extremely difficult and required would require hours and hours upon hours of work and I didn’t think releasing a video with all that sophisticated development was actually gonna do any good I actually thought it was going to cause more confusion for you so what I decided to do was wait on it a little bit and then I heard some
murmurs from within wicks and wicks have reached out and said that they were looking to build a wicks members chat which would allow people to communicate peer-to-peer messaging and actually create group chats within off of the back of some of the pre-made wicks apps and so when that had happened and there was beta access and now it’s finally out I knew this was my golden ticket to finally deliver you a user friendly method to creating a
peer-to-peer messaging system on Wix now please don’t attack me on this because this video is not going to be contained a whole bunch of cool sophisticated development tips and we’re gonna go through some cool development features no I’m sure you probably thought that was going to be the case but it’s not in fact it’s gonna be very easy to do this using some of the Wix app set you have likely already installed on your Wix website so without
further ado I’d like to jump in and show you what we have to do in order to make this thing happen so if you want to give members the ability to actually edit their information what you need to do is add a Wix member section to your website and to do that what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna go over to app and then you’re gonna scroll down to members and you’re gonna see add a members area and you’ll click Add to site then it’s gonna work it’s
Wix magic one through five add the members area and I’ll walk you through what it added quick and now it’s here so what you see on this page is the Wix members area up in the top there’s a Wix login bar there’s my account and this is where they can actually edit the information for their account first name last name email phone number if you have which stores that you can see that are my wallet purchase history all that kind of good stuff which
bookings you can see all of their bookings they can see their bookings which forum which we’re gonna add they can see that information and then they’ve got their profile card so this is like the quick edit portion is where they can edit their name their profile picture and then there’s a members menu so this is kind of like internal members pages that only they’ll be able to see and chain those pages depending on how you have your membership
settings and permissions so this is adding your which member section again if you follow my tutorial they will already be created as a member however this members area gives them the actual ability to go in and edit their profile and edit some of their Wix information I know I also showed you how to build profile pages on Wix which you can use that method as well for people to update their profiles but this is the internal wit system you need in
order to get that members chat role after you’ve got your members area what you need to add is you need to go to add apps and you need to add the Wix forum you’ll click Add it may be under recommended if it’s not just type it in the search Wix forum and you’ll click app and then once again which is gonna work its magic it’s gonna get it all pre-loaded and the reason you need the forum is because the forum is the actual social piece of this so Wix
is gonna go ahead and it’s gonna add the forum and it looks like it wanted to frees up a little bit there okay and then you’ve got the forum now the forum is freezing up a little bit it made this just be a glitch within the editor but it doesn’t actually matter because we don’t actually have to click on the forum or even use the forum page at all if we didn’t want to why because the app we’re going to be utilizing for our peer-to-peer messaging
is Wix chat the reason you need those two is because a person has to be registered on your website in order for them to be a member to actually send messages to have an account associated with their messages to send to other accounts that’s number one and number two you need the forum for that actual social backend and the forum is used as the backend to actually create groups in different communities within the forum to create chats and
peer-to-peer message so now that you’ve got the forum in the which members page now we’re gonna add the peer-to-peer messaging system to do this what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna go to add apps and once again this is currently a recommended app although if you don’t see it under recommended just type it in which chap you’ll click Add and then Wix chat is added to our Wix website now we can dive into the settings down here of Wix chat and you
can see the forum is now loaded we’ll press settings we’ll press get started now you can come in here and you can design your chat however you want you can come in here you can change the layout whether it’s on the bottom right or the bottom left of the screen whether it’s an actual like bubble notification or an open chat whatever you want that to display you can choose whether it’s rounded or if you want that full chat system like we just had
you can choose all that including the design you can choose the colors of the font the font its actual self you can choose the background the border style all that good stuff and then if you upgrade your Wix chat you’ll get Wix ascend as well which is that internal marketing suite and contact CRM suite which I personally recommend you do because you get access to a bunch more features and you can change the branding and all of that stuff and if
you’re building a professional community anyway it’s recommended but that’s not what we’re spending our time we’re not designing it what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna go to settings and now this is what I’m gonna literally blow your mind okay this is how easy it is to accomplish so you’re gonna see two things you’re gonna see visitors chat up at the top and if you enable visitors chat essentially what this means is that people whether they’re
registered or not registered on your website can chat messages to you to you as the owner and it’ll go to your Wix inbox in your Wix dashboard under your CRM your send plan your inbox is what it’s called and that’s visitors just like if you’ve gone to a website and there’s a chat system that’s what that is however we’re not doing that so I’m gonna deactivate visitors chat okay I’m gonna click that off what we are going to enable is members chat
and we’re gonna click enable members chat and then you’re gonna see a few things you’re gonna see let logged in site members chat with each other and that’s what this allows you to do and then you can switch the preview you can either have it as a chat view or a list view which actually lists all the different members that are in your forum or on your site that they can go and chat with okay which is really really cool so you can decide what
system you would like to use for chatting and then you just choose your chat visibility which pages is it showing on is it showing on all the pages of your website or is it showing on specific pages and you can come in here and actually select and assign the pages that this is showing up and now you’ve got a peer-to-peer messaging system in which let’s show you how it works so if we go to preview we can see members chat is associated and ready to
go up there if we click on it we can see welcome to the members chat we can press new chat and then it says there’s no other members yet so what I’m going to do is I’m actually going to publish the site and just go create a couple member accounts real quickly okay so I just went created a few test members and what we can do is we can now click members chat new chat and then we can see the different members that are currently in here that we can
chat with and you can actually search for members by name and you can click on it I’m gonna chat with test hey test how are you and you can send your message and now just to show you the other way of this I’m gonna log out of mine and then go login to test account okay so I just logged into test account and what do you see down here in the which members shaft you see a little red notification with a 1 next to it indicating that we have received a
message from me Michael Strout Kate esthe how are you I am doing great and I sent back and you now have a peer-to-peer messaging system on which and just to show you this you can even go new chat and new group chat and you can add both Michael me and our other testing account and then you can name the chat and add a photo to the chat and start typing and create it so you can now have peer-to-peer messaging plus group chats all on WIPs how
