hey everybody its Colt from the tech Revere comm today I'm gonna show you a tutorial on how to add an existing domain to a Hostgator control panel in this case it's a domain that is hosted or that is uh bought currently from net firms it's not a domain provider that I would recommend to anyone but this was a previously bought domain I bought about a year ago so at that time I was using them I've now switched to name silo which is a much more reputable domain provider so I put that in the description below so you can check it out for yourself but in this case we're going to add explore missus net to our existing Hostgator shared plan so the first step is to click the drop-down and go to name service as you'll see right now the name servers are set to the default net firm's name servers which your domain provider currently will be set to their own name server so what we're gonna do is we're gonna repoint this over to the Hostgator control panel so I'm logging in to the Hostgator control panel we're gonna scroll down to the portion that says account information and right here it'll say name servers so we're going to copy and paste this into the use different name servers portion and paste the second one change it to 84 and then we're going to click Save with a cough recently and I'm trying to get over it okay now it says the records have been updated and please note that name servers can take up to 24 hours to change to take effect and I've noticed it's usually a lot less than that it's up to usually about an hour or two later it will show affect the next step we're going to go to is we're going to go in the domains portion of our Hostgator control panel now we're going to click add-on domains and here we're going to put in the domain name which we don't need the www so just explore business that net it'll automatically fill in the sub domain and FTP username as well as the document root if your particular you can change these but I like to keep them the same and I'll put in a password and and again we do that long okay then we're going to click Add dummy and once we have clicked add domain this should be the final step once my internet loads so it tells us the add-on domain has been created and then we click go back and we should see it directly Oh John over it's right here so we've already seen it there and then the next step will be to install CMS such as WordPress on it and we will get to that in a later video so leave some questions comments concerns below and I hope you like this tutorial and I will be providing more in the future be sure to check out our website www.engvid.com .
