#HostGator: How do I point my existing domain to HostGator?

if you like this video please thumbs up and if you have any questions or support then go ahead and leave a comment so in this video what I’m gonna show you is how to complete a dns name change so let’s say you over at one hosting company and you just transferred over to another let’s say for example media media temple which is really awesome you’re gonna want to do a domain transfer you’re gonna want to point to move your domain name pointing
from one direction over into another and so that’s what I want to show you here in this video so let’s go ahead and dive right in I’ve already logged into my Hostgator account so I wanted to show you because if you scroll down here to the bottom of the page on Hostgator and this is similar with every single hosting account you’re gonna see the name servers right down here in the corner so there’s our NS 6125 dos cater so I’m gonna go ahead and
copy both of those there and then what I’m gonna do is log in to my domain registrar so in this particular case I’m using this one here called special domain services another gray one is GoDaddy you can use that one of course for all of your domain names so what you’re going to do is oh you’ll you’ll manage your click you’ll get through to the domain name and right down here you’re going to see name servers and click manage name servers ok you’ll
come in here you’ll see standard or hosted or custom so what you’ll do is you’ll click custom go ahead and enter those custom of those custom and again they’re all very similar in the way they operated they’re just slightly different but they don’t do the same thing you click OK and you’ll see them in here and I go ahead and click Save now one thing that’s important to understand with your name server is that it could actually take up to 48 to 72
hours before you actually see the changes and just so you know you may see the changes happen at your place but your friend across the country may not see it yet and here’s the reason why now there are thousands and thousands of computers and servers and everything all around the world and when you make a domain change it sends this information out to all the computers and then go and then it changes in each one of them and sometimes that takes a
lot of time for that to happen so you really want to make sure you give yourself at least 48 to seventy seventy two hours but when you do your name change your domain name change just because it’s gonna take some time now it could happen right away but it can also take a long time to do it as well alright so thank you so very much for watching this video again if you liked it please give it a thumbs up I really do appreciate that if you have any
