hi I'm Bill Allen with steve paikin calm and in this video I'm gonna create an add-on domain in my Hostgator account now when you first get your Hostgator account it'll be set up on a domain and perhaps you want to add another site or even 10 more sites for every new site that you're going to add to your server for your Hostgator you need to create what's called an add-on domain so what you do is you just log into your server and you'll see your control panel after that scroll down and you'll see domains click on add-on domain and this is the screen you'll see so here we have our new domain name so let's just type in a domain don't have HTTP or any of that stuff just right just the root domain now this stuff you don't have to fill in if you just click here it fills all in for you automatically the one thing you will need to do is add a password now I usually just use the password generator because it creates really great passwords that are very hard to figure out I have copy this password in a safe place use password click and here we have a very strong password now you need to save this password somewhere because this password is the password you're going to use if you need to use any kind of ftp client or a secure ftp client SFTP so you're going to need that that the password best thing to do is just create a spreadsheet and what I do is I have my spreadsheet that'll have everything on it it'll have the domain name then it'll have the ftp password in the password for wordpress if i'm using wordpress or any other passwords database password all that kind of stuff all on it so it's easy to whenever I need it and I suggest you do the same thing so we have everything we need click add-on domain or add domain and that's it it's been created after that give it a little bit of time and it will show up here in your browser it could take an hour two hours couple hours depends on how fast it propagates and that's it to add on an add-on domain especially if you're using cPanel which Hostgator does provide it's pretty easy and that's it .

Video Discription

Creating an Addon domain in any server with cPanel is simple and quick. After you "point" a domain to your server, your next step is to create an addon domain. Once complete, it may take a few hours to see your domain show up in your browser.

The process is really simple. You just log into your GoDaddy account and click on the domain you are looking to point to a server. The information you need to change will be on the bottom left under Set Nameservers. Click on that and a popup will display with radio buttons. Click on the one that says you have specific nameservers and a new popup with four boxes appears.

The default GoDaddy server information will already be there. Just write over that with the nameserver information your hosting company gave you when you opened your hosting account. Once you are done, click save and then save again and that's it! You are done. Quick and painless!
